So, one of my New Year’s resolutions for the last couple of years has been to say yes to as many things as possible that I am invited to. Sometimes it’s a super easy yes and other times I have to go outside of my comfort zone and push myself a bit harder. … but so far, I have not had a single regret!

Some of my yeses have been for dinners or dates, outings with friends or trips to new places. Unless I already have something on, and often I do because I like to be busy (probably too busy if you ask some people), I try to say yes and because of that I have had all kinds of opportunities that I might not have chosen for myself and it’s been great! This week I had another one of those opportunities… and it was fabulous!!

A friend messaged me the other day – quite out of the blue, which was lovely, to ask if I like the music of Hans Zimmer. I have to admit to having to do some Google research and then spent a whole day playing all kinds of soundtracks. My friend had a spare ticket to go and see the show so another yes from me. It turns out that Hans Zimmer composed to music to one of my favourite movies – well five of them to date (with another on the way hopefully!) If you know anything about me it’s that I adore both the Pirates of the Caribbean movies (at least once a year I do a re-watch, and I actually auditioned to be in film number 3) and the soundtrack – which I will hum for days after!

I actually had very little idea of what to expect from the show – I have not seen any of the other films that the soundtracks were played for, but at one stage Hans was talking about deliberately not showing clips of the films as part of his show, so as not to influence peoples emotions around the music…. and I am so glad, because I got to immerse myself in the sound and feel what I needed to feel. I am in awe of the cleverness that can create all those layers in the music, to hear all the different instruments and to take people on a journey, often entirely without words. It is absolutely a kind of magic!

Saying yes to things has brought all kinds of great things into my life, and I am so happy that this has been my mindset. I could very easily have said no to this experience – it was a very late night on a school night, with people I don’t know well at all…. but I am super happy that I pushed myself, because that was a phenomenal experience!… So thank you to my friend for thinking of me and for sharing the experience – it
